The film Den Himmel muss man sich wegdenken (You have to think your way through the sky) (2014) documents the pitch of a giant wave during a storm, revealing itself as a monochrome landscape beneath a strip of sky. At first barely perceptible, a subtle movement is noted throughout the peaked contours of the waves — an organic contraction and expansion of a mountain. It is with the congealed heaviness and force of lava that this mass of water flows through the image. The film was recorded with a high-speed camera, which allowed Julius von Bismarck to capture and decelerate the fugitive movement of a giant wave.
