Bags labeled “Exan” are piled on a Euro-pallet, which is suspended from the ceiling and hangs from a scale that reads 600 kilograms. Exan is an ammonium-nitrate-based explosive in powder form, which is commonly used in the quarry and mining industries. An explosion can be initiated by subjecting the substance to extreme shock, friction, or mechanical impact.
