This Unusual Rock Formation reminds us of a long-ago journey – enclosed in a layer of ice many meters above today's Earth surface, this boulder traveled long distances through the ice until it came to a standstill here in the glacier's final melt. The stone's illusion reveals our desire to interpret and construct our environment based on appearances. At the same time, its surface invites us to imagine the surrounding landscape through the vast lens of geological time.
The stone seems to float almost weightlessly through the air, only revealing its delicate suspension on closer inspection. It sways gently in the rhythm of the trees, playing with our perception – given that the eye can only perceive surfaces, we are confronted with the optical illusion of a solid object. This flying boulder is not a boulder but only its visible surface, supported from within by a grid-like steel framework that holds up its outer shell.
